Daudi Tingatinga

Daudi Tingatinga recently deceased was the only son of the most well-known Tanzanian painter Edward Saidi Tingatinga. The word Tingatinga is also used as a term for the whole art movement. But the life of Daudi was not easy. Tragically, his father died when he was a baby leaving behind a wife and his two children (the other child being Daudi’s sister Martina). Daudi and his family were living in poverty and his mother Agatha did not have enough money for food, let alone paying for any form of education. It was a good luck that Mzee Lumumba showed to Daudi how to paint because without him the only son of Tingatinga wouldn’t have been able to support his family.
